ESTRENO DE LA PAZ, DE SANTIAGO LOZA 19 Wed 2014

A la espera del próximo BAFICI, que se realizará del 2 al 13 de abril, se podrá disfrutar de una de las perlitas de la pasada edición del Festival. Este jueves 20 de febrero se estrena en diferentes salas de Buenos Aires La Paz, película ganadora de la Competencia Argentina en el [15] BAFICI. El filme narra la historia de Liso, un joven de clase media alta que sale de una internación psiquiátrica y debe vivir en la casa de sus padres. Lo único que parece sostenerlo es el vínculo con Sonia, una mucama boliviana que lo protege como si fuera su madre, y los momentos que pasa con su abuela."La Paz es un homenaje a los personajes mansos y encantadores, a las despedidas tranquilas. Es también una película de lo cotidiano. Simple, vital y también algo melancólica", cuenta su director, Santiago Loza, una de las grandes promesas del cine nacional. La película se podrá ver en los cines Village Recoleta, Gaumont, Arteplex Belgrano, BAMA, Cosmos UBA y Cine Avenida Bolivar.

Feature films Una canción coreana, by Gustavo Tarrío and Yael Tujsnaider; Mauro, by Hernán Rosselli; and Juana a los 12 (el increíble desencuentro), by Martin Shanly, and short films No sé María, by Paula Grinszpan; Salers, by Fernando Dominguez; and Numen, by Natalia Bianchi, won a grant from the Audiovisual Program of the Metropolitan Fund for Culture, Arts and Sciences and will get a world premiere during BAFICI 2014.

The grant aims to subsidize the completion of image and/or sound post-production processes. The Buenos Aires City Government’s Metropolitan Fund for Culture, Arts and Sciences is aimed at financially supporting projects, programs or activities related to the development or promotion of culture, arts and sciences in its diverse manifestations.

BAL SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED

SE EXTIENDE LA CONVOCATORIA PARA EL BAL 02 Mon 2013

The 11th edition of Buenos Aires Lab (BAL), the co-production market of BAFICI, which will be held from April 4 to 6, 2014, invites Latin American directors and producers to submit their projects and works-in-progress. The deadline has been extended until January 24 and candidates must submit a DVD (no length limitation). The 2014 BAL will also offer the 3 Puertos Cine workshop, jointly organized with Valdivia Film Festival’s AustraLAB, aimed at Argentine and Latin American projects in an early stage of development. Registration for the workshop closed on Monday, December 16. In addition to competing for an award, some of the WIPs will be selected to participate in the Marché du Film of Cannes International Film Festival with an exclusive screening at the Palais des Festivals, with guests including some of the international film professionals attending the most important market in the industry. On the other hand, the 3 PUERTOS Cine workshop will have its second part at the AustraLAB, in the framework of the Valdivia International Film Festival 2014 (Chile). Finally, some of the projects will travel to CineMart, the co-production market of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Netherlands), in January 2015.

We are no longer accepting Argentine films for consideration for the lineup of the 16th BAFICI, which will be held from April 2 to 13, 2014. The remarkable number of submissions received reveals, once again, the interest the Festival generates every year and the prestige and exhibition opportunities around the world it provides. In the 2013 edition, a total of 473 films (165 shorts, 36 medium-length films and 272 feature films) were showcased at 1004 commercial screenings, with a resoundingly successful turnout: over 370 thousand people enjoyed the Festival.

METROPOLITAN FUND CALL FOR PROPOSALS

CONVOCATORIA FONDO METROPOLITANO 04 Wed 2013

The deadline to submit projects for funding from the Audiovisual Program of the Metropolitan Fund for Culture, Arts and Sciences , of the Ministry of Culture of the Buenos Aires City Government is November 29. The grant aims to subsidize the completion of image and/or sound post-production processes for short or feature films by filmmakers who comply with the official rules of BAFICI. Recipients of the grant will get a world premiere of their film during the 2014 edition of the Festival, to be held from April 2 to 13. Directors can submit their project (up to their third film) at Av. de Mayo 575 – 6th floor, Office 605, from Monday to Friday, from 10 AM to 5PM. LOS POSIBLES AT SALA LUGONES

LOS POSIBLES EN LA LUGONES 23 Thu 2013

Los posibles, the film by Santiago Mitre and Juan Onofri Barbato shown at the 2013 edition of BAFICI, will have 6 screenings at the Sala Leopoldo Lugones of the Teatro San Martín (Av. Corrientes 1530). During May, the film will be showing on Thursday 23, Friday 24, Sunday 26, Monday 27, Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29, at 10 PM . Los posibles is an adaptation of the dance performance staged by the group KM 29, directed by Juan Onofri Barbato. The show was based on the social experience undergone during a physical training workshop at a social center located in González Catán, Buenos Aires province, aimed at teenagers in a position of social vulnerability.

Five works in progress selected at the Buenos Aires Lab (BAL), BAFICI’s Latin American co-production market, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2013, was showned at the Marché du Film of the Cannes Film Festival, held in the French Riviera. They are Algunas chicas, by Santiago Palavecino (Argentina); Depois da chuva, by Claudio Marques and Marília Hughes (Brazil); La Once, by Maite Alberdi (Chile); Por las plumas, by Neto Villalobos (Costa Rica); and Reimon, by Rodrigo Moreno (Argentina), selected to participate in the first collaboration of this kind with the prestigious international film market that runs in parallel with the famous festival. In this way, BAL consolidates itself as a “key place for Latin American projects,” according to BAFICI Artistic Director Marcelo Panozzo. “The Festival is comprehensively supported by its films: the movies screened and those that are not yet finished, which are at the shooting or editing stage, which are a script or an idea,” he added.

A total of 370 thousand people attended the 15th edition of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI), one of the most prestigious cultural events in Latin America. And the figures confirm it. For 12 days, the City of Buenos Aires celebrated the world’s best independent film with a total of 473 films (165 shorts, 36 medium-length films and 272 feature films), showcased at 1004 commercial screenings and 77 press screenings, with 85% of tickets sold.

The English film Berberian Sound Studio, by Peter Strickland, was voted Best Film of the International Official Selection, and Santiago Loza’s La paz won such category in the Argentine Official Selectionm, as was announced at the Centro Cultural Recoleta, together with the rest of the awards of the 15th edition of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI). Other winners in the International Competition include, María Villar, Agustina Muñoz, Elisa Carricajo as Romina Paula, collectively awarded Best Actress for Viola, by Matías Piñeiro; Franceso Carril, Best Actor for Los ilusos; Matt Porterfield, Best Director for his film I Used to Be Darker; Playback, by Antoíne Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov, which earned a special mention; and Leones, by Jazmín López, which received the Special Jury Prize. Additionally, in the Argentine Competition, Raúl Perrone was chosen Best Director for P3ND3J05, and Alejo Moguillansky’s El loro y el cisne received a special mention. In the Short Films Official Selection, the first prize went to 9 Vacunas, by Iair Said, and the second prize went to Yo y Maru 2012, by Juan Renau.
