Synopsis

A man named Ariel Roth is about to turn 35, and all of his rhythms, obsessions and comfort prevents him from realizing the world (well, part of his microworld) thinks he has to distance himself from the spot he is in now: in a few hours, and because of his immaturity, he will get dumped by his girlfriend and also by… his friend! Will Ariel move in the direction everyone wants him to? Velódrome presents itself as “an existential comedy from Santiago del Estero.” And the topics of this comedy are those of age, work, relationships, films (which Ariel downloads of the Internet and watches in his computer) and the chance to be the way you want to be. Fuguet believes in narrative films, those that far from being anemic, just move around (like Ariel on his bike); and he knows that making a film is also a statement about cinema –thus the memorable irony darts thrown to the character of the director who “triumphs” in Europe. Velódrome is a winy (and yet not-cynical) comedy, with some familiarity to Ezequiel Acuña’s films and a brilliant use of the digital format for the exteriors of Santiago, which always seem to be reflecting a particular kind of light, beautiful in its frailty and also in its fulfillment.
