Synopsis

A hidden epic lead by Hungarian men and women who emigrated to the United States between 1890 and 1921. During those very same years, cinema was born, establishing it self as one of the main and most popular ways of expression in that young 20th century. With perfect synchrony, Péter Forgács oversees these two phenomenons, using archive footage from those years back when cinema was something undefined, between an optical toy for fair shows and the amateur recording device eager to go pro. But also, Hunky Blues is a film about the transition from still photography to cinematographic movement as the hardware of memories, which created a new way of seeing that started to transform the ways of representing memory in that moment of passage between two centuries. This way, with a thorough historic and aesthetic research work, Forgács delivers a symphony of emotions out of the crossing of two movements: the emigrational and the cinematographic.
