Synopsis

In Cooking History, Peter Kerekes wants to tell a fragment of History from the kitchen; in this film, he tries to do it from the old (and very attractive) swimming pool of Kosice, the second largest city in Slovakia. In both films, he ends up finding stories behind History, or making it clear that a great portion of History is made of stories. The 66 Seasons are the ones between the years 1936 and 2002: World War II, communism, the 1968 Soviet invasion and the end of communism are part of the huge background in many swimmers’ life story. The swimming pool has witness them, their stories, and History as they passed by. And the pool reveals itself as a protagonist, one that is calm (although it endured being the place of many passions), refreshing, and –as we can also see in Nanni Moretti’s great political and pool-itical film Red Lob– highly photogenic.
