Synopsis

The explanation for hundreds of guitars being played by themselves, various pairs of shoes that can sound (almost) like a chamber organ, or how is it that one of the most revolutionary music installations of today makes no sound at all, can be summed up in one simple name: Trimpin. The man who bares it says to the camera in the very first minute of this film: “I didn’t want to be a technician or an engineer, or just a musician or a composer, my interest was playing in between”. From that initial statement, Peter Esconde builds a story that positions itself around the creative games of sonic assemblage from this technician/engineer/musician/composer who was born in Germany but moved to the US after realizing “what incredible junk you have in this country!” However, even when inside the Trimpin universe (a workshop/lab where mathematics works at the service of music and music itself operates in quantum dimensions, invisibly tearing down the boundaries of what is possible) there’s apparently nothing else but games, that’s actually just the tip of a heavy white iceberg. This film’s bet is to try and explore beneath the surface.
