Synopsis

Sometimes the best avant-garde is very similar to the dreams and nightmares of science fiction. This documentary might very well reflect an interesting point of view regarding the sounds and images of that futuristic imagination, by turning Tokyo into a capital city for the extreme experiments made by a group of prodigious Japanese musicians that includes Sakamoto Hiromichi, Otomo Yoshihide, Yamakawa Fuyuki, L?K?O, Numb, Saidrum, Takehisa Ken and Shimazaki Tomoko. Mixing apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic realism with futuristic minimalism, these musicians decompose and question their instruments in order to transform sound-research into a radical and liberating experience. Documentary filmmakers Gaspard Kuentz and Cédric Dupire follow these champions of noise through conversations and performances that sometimes result in quiet introspection, but sometimes are just pure rage; they keep projecting the possibilities of sound destruction, tension, and renewal towards alternative channels, with a visual framing drafted in a way it turns the film screen into the best possible soundboard for every roaring echo.
