Synopsis
On a personal quest, Rosa von Praunheim gets immerse into recording life in New York during the late 1980´s, when the filth and marginalization still looked a lot like the city Scorsese goes through in Taxi Driver (1976). In the biographic portrait of Ulrike Buschbacher, Anna Steegmann and Claudia Steinberg –three German women who are trying to survive in exile– there´s a resisting core that fights against life as a disciplinary and blocked place: because they prove to be genuine exponents of an existence that´s off-centered from reactionary values, even when finding their place in the world will cost them more than the usual. Von Praunheim shows how the three of them could have been the followers of the performance force and eccentricity of some of the superstars in the Factory led by Andy Warhol, who died one year before this documentary was shot. This film was Von Praunheim’s biggest success in Germany, and not only it’s still as powerful as before, it also gained value as a legitimate record of the New York prior to Rudy Giuliani´s purge.
