Synopsis

Once again David Blaustein revisits the Argentine past from the Sixties and Seventies –which he had already addressed in Hunters of Utopia (1995) and Spoils of War (2000)– and he does so now with one of his most concise and somehow personal films. A double and yet indivisible documentary, Fragmentos rebelados focuses on the figure of Enrique Juárez, a leader in the Luz y Fuerza union and disappeared activist of the Peronist Workers Youth (the union branch of Montoneros). He was also a filmmaker and editor, responsible for one of the most daring films in Argentine political cinema: Ya es tiempo de violencia (1969). Through the testimonies of his family, his fellow union members, and other filmmakers, the film surrounds Juárez’ life alternating his art with his politics, yet never losing sight of the man behind all that. Because, as the fragments from his unfinished film demonstrate (and Blaustein reveals in his own film) for Juárez there were no differences within his struggle: for him, fighting was the same as living.
