Synopsis

Renaldo Kuhler has been working as an illustrator at the Museum of Natural Science in North Carolina for decades. What nobody knows is that during all that time, parallel to his daily activities, Kuhler designed a separate world: Rocaterrania, an imaginary country located north of the Adirondacks Mountains, inhabited by immigrants from Eastern Europe. A shy and lonely man, Kuhler spent most of his free time writing the story of this country –from its agitated political life to small family sagas–, drawing its landscapes, and creating family trees as well as some strange creatures, the peekles, which can be recognized for their particular bone constitution in the lower back. Brett Ingram –who was awarded at Slamdance for his documentary about Bruce Bickford, another lonely man– had access to all the material and interviewed the artist at length. With all that, he assembled this documentary: an endless flow of visions and experiences guided by Kuhler’s voice; a single trip to the loving and overwhelming imagination of an unexpected artist.
