Synopsis

In October 1947, right in the middle of Juan Domingo Perón’s first presidency, genocide took place in the town of Pilagá, an indigenous community located in central Formosa. An estimate of 600 people was shot to death by the National Guard after a long persecution and extermination campaign that was planned with extreme cruelty. The event was silenced, and was still unpunished, more than half a century later, until the Pilagá Federation filed a case against the State for “crimes against humanity in 2005”. This revealing documentary by Valeria Mapelman reconstructs the events with information and testimonies from the people of Pilagá, but also follows the investigation carried out by a group of forensic anthropologists in order to find traces of the massacre that could not only definitely prove this genocide, but also become a historical source to keep on completing the cruel tale of the extermination of native people, that is still being perpetrated today.
