Synopsis
Sound artist Hans Koch, cellist Martin Schültz, and drummer Fredy Studer form a jazz trio that plays free and noise styles, and also makes incursions into electronic music. They played 30 gigs in September 2005 –one for each day of the month– all in the same Zurich venue. This is the asymmetric record of those concerts, all different from each other as they were based on improvisations made over samples that ranged from Bartók to Public Enemy. Liechti filmed all those performances, selected particular moments in them, and inserted some post-show conversations between the musicians. His film works as an excellent introduction to the trio, and shows how they put in action their theories on the art of improvisation.
