    Synopsis

Since his first film, the extraordinary Manuela (1975), GGP tried to give weight to the talks over the actors so that they almost theatrically declaimed. So dialogues in Vivir en Sevilla and especially those of Frente al mar can seem so artificial, when in fact stem from a rhetoric strategy (that borders on the metalinguistic) with the Andalusian accent and the way that Castilian is to build ideas and concepts in it. García Pelayo recounts that Frente al mar is perhaps the first auteur “S” film (the softcore gender genuinely Spanish) and that all his films lack marginal vocation. The trip to Chipiona, Cádiz, of three couples who seek to find the truth lying beneath their skins by sharing and loving sex couples over the moral conventions of their parents, ends to be a political buddy movie, hesitant and very clarifying about the confusion of a country that suddenly seems so free and full of possibilities as when one stares at the horizon swimming at the sea.
