Synopsis

Ever since Toy Story, everybody knows toys come to life when we’re not looking. In the Attic has more than one link with that masterpiece, but from a kind of alternate universe: as if Barta had conceived it in some remote cave of Planet Cinema, a place where those old objects and techniques for doll animation –were you can almost touch the trace left by the animator– were resisting time. On the other hand, in Barta’s timeless attic there’s more than just toys. A delicate blonde doll seems to be the only one responsible for serving tea and keeping the harmony in a home that’s made of forgotten characters –the gentlemanly Mr. Handsome, a Teddy bear, a mash up of clay who goes by the name of Schubert. But then the henchmen of The Head, a tyrant leader of the ancient regime, kidnap the blonde damsel. And then, the old but always vibrant technique of stop motion puts its particular magic to work showing its dark enchantment and crossing those two bizarrely related worlds: the traditional kid’s fable, and the political allegory. The charming and the sinister made into one.
