Synopsis

In a Scottish country house, a woman dreams about her horse dying. She gets up in the middle of the night, and indeed, the animal is dead. Shortly after, the woman has another dream. Her husband talks to her from the afterlife in a gloomy Spanish and tells her she has one year to live. That woman is documentary filmmaker Amy Hardie, and that year she has left is the one narrated in The Edge of Dreaming, an autobiography that carries a horror film premise, and uses a tone of thriller and sometimes comedy, but also animation, scenes of a dark surrealism, and, as if it wasn’t enough, a fascinating story about the science (and myth) of dreaming, from neurology to shamanism. Family life, the notion of fate, the awareness of death, and many other important subjects pass by in front of Hardie’s eyes, who still never loses her lightness or humor, not even when, as she falls gravely ill, the prophecy from her nightmare starts to become true.
