Synopsis
At the time this catalog goes to print, and according to the World Boxing Council (WBC), the women’s boxing champion in the Super Flyweight division is Mexican fighter Ana María Torres, who last defended her crown on January 22nd. She’s the warrior of the title. In order to make this documentary, filmmaker Paulina del Paso, who is now a close friend of hers, followed Ana María for three years and witnessed her personal and professional life. We are able to see her relationship with her family, her husband, and her manager, as well as her early days, her road to fame, the trips to Korea, the efforts, the victories and the falls (and part of the film’s intelligence comes from its storytelling, which doesn’t disregard losses since that’s where one can find as much or more truth than in the triumphs). And of course, we get to see magnificent fights. Torres, who was born in Nezahualcóyotl and was a pioneer of women’s boxing in Mexico, is a stubborn, hard-working, and brave sportswoman. Luckily, she’s also a great film character.
