Synopsis
Blue Meridian’s main character is the Mississippi, the river that joins the North and South of the United States. The camera invites us on a tour through the tiny cities that rise on the margins of this river/meridian. Places that –as one of the interviewed people says– “understand what needs to be done in order to survive”. Survive what? Natural disasters and oblivion. But rather than a documentary
about the towns of this big country/continent, Sofie Benoot’s film unfolds as a mobile painting in which landscapes –whether they are natural or manufactured– frame their inhabitants as if they were the ghosts in an uncelebrated American history. And where people are not interesting for what they say but for the melancholy they express during the scenes –at times funny, at times sad– they build with everything around them. A film, in summon, that takes us spectators for a ride as if we were on board of a little ship, floating at the pace of the Mississippi current.
