Synopsis
The amusement park in Gaza doesn’t have a ghost ride anymore, but the whole place seems, at least for a moment, to have become itself a phantasmagoric territory. And yet, among the ruins, life goes on. After reaching the disputed Strip on February 2009, just a few weeks after the last Israeli offensive, Wadimoff points his camera to the people, especially the children and teenagers who try to deal with destruction and uncertainty. His eye dwells on fishermen, on a classroom where a clown tries to incorporate to the kids’ games the inevitable reality of bombs, noise and rage, and on the testimony of a boy who has already seen too many people die around him but still prepares for battle. He also observes the members of the Darg Team band, their explicit lyrics about holding on and surviving in a seemingly unfixable world, and what might be the real topic of this documentary: the strange, powerful energy this beaten youth irradiates even when they live amidst chaos and darkness.
