Synopsis
A filmmaker and poet of the nihilistic visceral (or the visceral nihilism), Sion Sono gets back on the path of the finest subversive cinema: the one that is equally enjoying and disturbing. Mister Shamoto runs a modest fish shop and leads an apparently very stable life next to his second wife and his daughter, until the irruption of Murata, the owner of a luxurious fish enterprise crowded with adorable teenage assistants. Murata’s likable spirit and irresistible materialistic bragging will soon seduce the family, even though Shamoto quickly finds out the man’s excessive kindness and constant smile hide some dark and bloody secrets. A brutal film in the shape of a spastic catalog of perversions, with a nuance of social critique that reveals the undisguised rottenness that nests beneath capitalist neon lights without ever affecting the ambiguity of characters. Including Shamoto, whose docile character will be gradually altered as the spiral of events drags him to the edge of madness.
