Who can claim to be the son of God? Do you have to declare yourself as such or do you need other people’s recognition? Is it necessary to have some sort of supernatural power in order to prove one’s divinity? Whatever the requisites, they might have been fulfilled today by a midget who wears a blond wig and lives in Manila. Hard to believe, yes, but not more than other famous stories about faith and superstition. The interesting thing about this film by Khavn and Noer –two enfants terribles who got together for this film thanks to a workshop in the Dox:Lab in Copenhagen– is the tension it builds right between what’s possible, what’s credible, fiction, and that which is usually considered the truth. This ungodly film sets all those categories into an abyss and makes even the son of god doubt about his identity. With this film, the filmmakers step away from the documentary tone and, with a great sense of humor, dive deeper into fiction, to the point where in the middle of the film one of them assumes a leading role in the plot.
