Synopsis
Laila Pakalnina enjoys comparing her new documentary short film with the cinema of the Lumière brothers, but if you watch just a few minutes you can to say that actually her biggest influence are Jacques Tati’s films. Guided by a silently funny ability for observation, this Letonian filmmaker’s camera goes through the Rubik road –a bicycle path that connects Riga with Jurmala– over and over to portray the inner workings of a society in constant motion. Just like Tati and the Lumières, she’s aware that there’s a political dimension in every perspective
