Synopsis
“No matter what’s the story I want to tell, I can’t help but making a comedy. I’m interested in films that stir the audience. I feel comfortable with that because I think it takes courage to be happy, and above anything else, I want to avoid the trap of sordid realism. I rather suggest that sort of things. And I always had a thing for slackers and losers, especially because they bring a dimension of adventure into the most routine life”. What better way to get inside the intoxicatingly chaotic world of Copacabana than with this quote by director Marc Fitoussi; which not only works as a manifest for a rebel and vital cinema, but also as a sort of X-ray picture of Badou, the crazy protagonist played by Isabelle Huppert who will do anything to get the love of her daughter back. In the story’s comings and goings, and her multiple attempts to become “a bit more normal”, Badou will make perfectly clear routine exists only so it can be disturbed and pushed towards the edge of life.
