Synopsis
The identity of a big city lies mostly on its buildings. Buenos Aires has a chaotic variety of architectural styles coexisting with each other, some well connected, some in conflict. Medianeras starts with the observation and classification of these buildings. Then it focuses on two people that inhabit them: a guy and a girl. She’s Mariana (Pilar López de Ayala) and he’s Martín (Javier Drolas). Taretto plays with the romantic comedy genre, and the film won’t lie on its typical menu, which always demands an answer to the question, are they meant for each other? Medianeras tells us Mariana and Martin indeed are, so the question now would be: how they will get to meet? This short text featured the verb “lie” a couple of times, and that word is certainly not proper to describe Medianeras, a film that is far from any notion of rest or auto-pilot storytelling, and has thousands of ideas, details, and corners of cinematographic pleasure.
