Synopsis
In the middle of a stirred Athens, as fragile as combative, a sixteen year-old skater moves through the pavement and the ruins of the Acropolis with some circumstantial friends. In another part of town, a man struggles to support his family with two jobs that push him to the verge of collapsing on a daily basis. Two points of view about life in the same city, and the same recently shaken society: that’s where Argyris Papadimitropoulos and Jan Vogel’s first film is aiming at. And it goes forward on with a liberated street-wise attitude that extends the same style explorations Neorealist film initiated more than half a century ago while updating them with a simple dramatic structure closer to contemporary cinema. An urgent and gripping film, Wasted Youth proves the best kind cinema is that which results from an intense dialogue with reality.
