Synopsis
Salvador Allende launches a program of social and political changes in order to modernize the State and put an end to poverty. From the very first day, the more conservative sectors organize a series of brutal strikes against him, while the White House chokes him financially. Despite the economic and Congressional blockade (the opposition rejects almost every bill he introduces) the parties that supported Allende –in March of 1973– obtained a surprising result: 43,4 % of the votes. The right wing understands then that legal mechanisms are no longer effective. From now on their strategy will be staging a coup.
