Synopsis
The run-down interior of an abandoned building as the only place that’s inhabited by a voice; it’s like a silent ghost, because it doesn’t say a word, and it only expresses itself through printed text in white letters written over spaces. Between those two universes, the place and the text, there’s a common formal element that identifies a parallel state of decomposition: the story of a couple broken by verbal syntax and the building’s rooms, fractioned by the editing. Relationships are always forms of visual cuts that point out to a double, overprinted path in which someone is always watching and someone is telling something, without ever knowing whether that someone is one or many. This is why Gabriela Golder holds a stealthy conflict on every video shot, one that seems to echo both a certain trend in video art and Marguerite Duras’ films, creating a necessary intimacy to crystallize a microclimate that seems habitable only because there’s an eye who is not afraid of the word poetry or any of its unexpected possibilities.
