Bio

Cultural journalist and film critic, he lives in New York and regularly writes for The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Artforum, among others. A member of the National Society of Film Critics, he has organized film series at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and in 2010 he programmed the 56th Robert Flaherty Film Seminar. He is a former editor of the film section of The Village Voice, and compiled the anthology The Village Voice Film Guide (2006). He is founder and editor of Moving Image Source, the digital publication of the Museum of the Moving Image. He is also a professor of cultural journalism and film criticism at NYU and is a member of the New York Film Festival selection committee.
