Synopsis

A drowned trip of words –and languages– through the Mediterranean, on board of the Costa Serena cruise. Two kids stand up to their parents and demand concrete answers about the state of the contemporary world. A journey with six stopovers in territories charged with political and cinematographic meaning: Egypt, Palestine, Odessa, Greece, Naples, and Barcelona. A new installment of what many regard as a second exploration by JLG (post Dziga Vertov) in non-narrative territory –Histoire(s) du cinema being the cornerstone–, Film Socialisme might be defined as simply an essay in three parts, all independent but complimentary. On the opposite side of didactic history and expositive linearity, Godard’s most radical film in a long time seems to insist on one of his work’s greatest constants: reality is a too complex and abstract process for anyone to try and soften it. Much less using cinema to do so.
