Synopsis
A generous answer proves the level of a great polemicist. To those who accused Passion of lacking an articulated story, Godard answers them with a late script that’s pure image, an essay incarnated in him placed in front of an empty screen that only looks like a blank page. It’s not seeing again, but just plain seeing: cinema’s secret nature, the indivisible connection between art and work, economic development invading every aspect of human history. Godard sits alone and thinks about his own work, reflects while hanging on to his cigarette, builds his ephemeral theory, like the image that passes by.
