Synopsis
Since 1996, Trestikova’s patient and omniscient camera has followed the tribulations of Katka: her addictions and love affairsm, which are both originated in and submitted to the darkest margins of today’s Prague. After fourteen years of coarse waiting, the Czech filmmaker was able to finish another one of her unusual life-long feminine portraits, outlining a sort of triptych with Marcela and René. In this case, Katka lives incarcerated in a squatting and criminal life on the streets, injecting herself with heroine –sometimes alone but often with some boyfriend– and enduring constant and extreme survival crisis. The most turbulent conflict of all is Katka’s pregnancy, which turns her addiction into an even heavier problem as she struggles with the obligations and limitations of the social welfare system. Among all that anxiety and anguish, and yet in an honest non-judgmental way, Trestikova carries out a vividly and intimate radicalism with Katka, tracing a path that crosses several marginal boundaries and turns this documentary into a borderline experience.
