Synopsis

Ever since the years of Jean Rouch and Edgar Morin, taking the cameras out to the streets has been an excellent way to know what goes on in the mind of a country and, at the same time, closing in on a definition for things as abstract as love, idiosyncrasy or society. But that practice was ruined by TV and news shows, so it’s hardly practiced in cinema. As if they were raising the stakes (and the provocative spirit) from their previous film Noticias Perut and Osnovikoff (who were the object of a retrospective in Bafici 2009) decide to obverse and bring a voice to a group of Chilean people on a very special day in that country’s history. On December 10th, 2006, Pinochet dies in the Santiago Military Hospital, and the people’s reaction soon appears. Surprising, fun, and excessive: those are all adjectives that could be applied to the people who speak out (they yell, shout, spit) but also to the film, which in the end is made precisely with those people. The film is yet another example of this filmmaker duo’s ability to handle reality and show it in the rawest way.
