Synopsis
Puiu made quite a project: an almost 3 hours-long film with an almost excusive protagonist –played by himself!– of whom we don’t know pretty much anything about. Viorel wakes up in a house we’ll soon find out it’s not his, and he’s with a woman who apparently isn’t his wife either. He goes to a workshop, claims a debt, and gets a piece of metal he will later use to build a two barrel shot gun in an apartment he should be fixing up... but we can tell h’s planning something different. What he will do with the gun and what consequences that will cause, is something we’ll find out gradually, which is the way we should find out about things when we’re digesting defining events. With quiet shots that are as expectant as its main character, Aurora is based on a fluid performance by the cast. And Puiu, who never leaves out humor even in the strangest moments, is a concentrated, almost severe actor: instead of clues to understand his character’s inner turbulence all we find are his hard and stubborn eyes.
