Synopsis

Breakfast Lunch Dinner is a trilogy of short films directed by Asian filmmakers, and they all revolve around love. Well, around love and the three meals listed in the title, which articulate the unarticulated structure of the film (shot in China, Thailand, and Singapore). In Breakfast, directed by Wang Bing, a woman travels through China to meet her boyfriend and have “the talk” about the future. Anocha Suwichakornpong’s Lunch follows a teenage girl who ditches school to have lunch and catch a movie with her best friend. Kas Cai’s Dinner is perhaps the most melancholic of the three, and shows a woman anchored in her past and a man searching for a future next to her. As a whole, the three films reflect the complexity and ambiguity of a particular, isolated moment, which yet seems to underline that universal characteristic of being in love.
