Bio

Born in Timisoara, Romania, in 1951, he studied literature in this city, in Hungary and Germany, where he has resided since 1981. He is a film professor at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, and in 2002 he founded the Film Institute ZKM, which he also directs. He made the feature films Videogramas de una revolución (1992; together with Harun Farocki), Out of the Present (1995) and The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu (2010) –the three are showing at this year’s Festival–, in addition to Unknown Quantity (2005) and the short film 2 Pasolini (2000), both for the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art.
