Synopsis
Jason still lives with his mother. It’s summer, and this lovely film takes place in a small town in the US. Jason loafs around with pleasure and hangs out with his friends. There are some tensions that interrupt the small adventures of his relaxed life, but not entirely. Jason and his friends visit another friend who lives out in the forest. They’re not “dazed young men”, they’re lucid, curious, and there are nice sparks, good micro-stories, and some great jokes in their conversations and pauses. Slacker life, skating, comradeship, mother/son and friendship/relationship bonds, work: in this particularly smooth coming-of-age story these are all topics that flow naturally with the help of Keegan DeWitt’s music. An ultra-independent director-producer-editor-camera man, Ian Clark tells his story with lyricism, brevity, and framings that are truly aware of what they’re showing, whether it’s the sky, a street, a landscape, or people having a conversation. A very particular small-town tale, and –therefore– a truly universal one.
