Synopsis
Leonard Cohen once said anxiety was what kept him going. Romanian director Adrian Sitaru makes it impossible to relate the small via crucis through hospitals anxious 30 year-old Alex goes through (despite that anything can be the end of the world for him) with that other Romanian medical hit, The Death of Sr. Lazarescu. Because where Lazarescu denounced a system, Sitaru’s second movie Best Intentions observes people whose anxiety truncates their life. Just when Alex was verbally abusing his girlfriend, he receives the news: his mom is in the hospital. Sitaru changes the point of view: instead of staying with Alex’s frenetic exaggeration and overwhelming perception of things, he alternates the views on him –either a subjective shot of an occasional passenger travelling on the same transport as him, or even a doctor telling him (despite the fact he can’t stop yelling) that his mother is all right. An essay on anxiety that doesn’t avoid experimentation or realism and makes a strange, real-time portrait of anxiety as an overwhelming ghost that is hard to capture.
