Synopsis
Marius wakes up in his apartment. It doesn’t seem to be a great awakening. He goes to his parents’ house, where there doesn’t seem to be a lot of harmony. But Marius’ short circuits as a son are nothing compared to what will come later: Marius goes to his ex wife’s house looking for his daughter Sofia, who also lives there with her father’s former mother-in-law and her mother’s new boyfriend. Marius wants to take Sofia to the sea. However, people and their plans sometimes clash against personal relationships. Everybody in Our Family is a film that builds up tension to limits (like nervous giggles) that are often linked to suspense or crime films. Well, strictly speaking, this is a family thriller, and if director Radu Jude does manage to build up tension is thanks to his fluid way of handling spaces, his actors’ abilities to play the toughest domestic quarrels, and the Romanian cinema’s currently evident ability to construct the rawest everyday realism.
