Synopsis
The Australian town of Snowtown made headlines in the late Nineties because of the events that took place there. This fiction film based in that story features Jamie Vlassakis, a blond, long-haired teenager with an angel’s face who lives with his mother and his young siblings in a working class suburb, where lots of things happen on the streets, but also indoors. Jamie soon starts to relate to his mother’s new boyfriend John Bunting, a friendly and apparently nice neighbor. But he and his friends actually form a violent xenophobe and homophobe group. Tension is built up slowly, depicting the horror of everyday situations with the pulse of a perverted Mike Leigh, and resulting in one of the hardest first films to be seen in the international circuit in 2011, and which makes Mad Max seem like an Australian version of Speed Racer.
