Synopsis

Francine gets out of jail. She settles in a house. She begins to look for a job. Already have a couple. She bonds with some people. They’re fleeting relations either because of their own nature or rather by Francine’s own decision. Who is Francine? She’s a woman in her fifties that also loves animals, or at least has in her home an astonishing amount of them. Maybe even a sick amount of them. One has questions regarding the character because Francine is fiercely anti-psychological. She is played by Melissa Leo (who won an Oscar for The Fighter) in one of those total, precise, admirably contained and sober performances. Directors Brian M. Cassidy and Melanie Shatzky follow –respectfully and harshly– the character through charmless places of an American suburbia that lies rambled in a deep crisis. Francine is obviously a desperate character who is in a critical moment in her life, and a rigorous eye is needed to tell her story through some solid, huge and lacerating cinema; in this case, through coherent and lucid cinematographic decisions charged with honesty and realism.
