Synopsis

Set in the year 1900, right in the gap that takes place when we move from one century to the next, the action in L’Apollonide locates in the homonymous brothel in Paris. Among its walls upholstered with dark colors, a group of prostitutes work with extreme dedication. Each and every one of those girls welcome the men who visit them and the stories that took them there, the secrets that are only revealed between those four walls, the odors, the tears, the sex. Bonello’s interest in details and their emotional and representative dimension mixes with his personal version of a “film d’ époque”, which includes rock songs in the soundtrack and leaps in space-time; and seems to find eroticism in the naked bodies of beautiful young ladies as well as in the detailed pictoric reconstruction of the situations that take place.
