Synopsis
Bruno Dumont focuses on two characters we don’t learn much about and who keep quiet about themselves, as well as on their wandering through open landscapes surrounded by silence and their view of the world –or rather that portion of the world. He had already went through some of the topics in this film, but now he apparently wants to purify them, clean them, and leave only the absolute minimum in order to focus on feelings instead of actions. Thus, the religious and somewhat mystic climate that is formed and strengthened through the scenes gets interweaved by his walking and the way she follows her –faithful, devoted, like an unconditional believer on his behavior. Men and women, unresolved situations, they all appear on the characters’ unchangeable, serene and slow path. Beneath what they can see and are able to change or intervene in, underlies the endless clash between Good and Evil. Or, since this is Dumont, it might not be a clash, but rather a dialog, a thread, an encounter.
