Synopsis
Early last year, the Tahrir Square in Cairo began as the epicentre for the demonstrations against Mubarak’s dictatorship, and later became the most powerful symbol of the triumphant revolution. With quick reflexes, Italian documentary filmmaker Stefano Savona (a regular visitor in Egypt with some experience in standing at the front line of events) settled in the square a few days after the demonstrations began, to understand, in his own words, “who were the thousands of people challenging the regime, what exactly they wanted, what their political orientation and their symbolic points of reference were, how they imagined their future”. Focusing on the everyday life of three young protagonists and without ever losing sight of the extraordinarily heterogeneous character of that human wave, Savona’s camera tirelessly records debates, scuffles, human stampedes, chanting (a lot, imaginative and catchy) and offers a vibrant –and still open ended– chronicle of those 20 days that shook the world.
