Synopsis

Toño goes back to Tarija and he has to face everything that was said about him while he was away. Years ago, a relationship with his cousin Ana –which was frowned upon by his family– had forced him to leave everything behind. When her father gets sick, he can then return to everything he had left. The feeling of being uprooted and repression –both self-imposed and inflicted– more or less mark every character, so much that even Toño’s drinking buddies know there are things you do not talk about. This free version of Rodrigo Hasbún’s Carretera shows exile and the dictatorship as two issues boosted by the first images of the film, in which a small documentary insert places the film in context with a particular history and climate. And the plot will be the starting point for a thorough and quiet work on every shot, with a camera that takes its time to go through lights, landscapes, overlapped images and different textures, searching for an intense audiovisual experience.
