Synopsis

Being an albino in Africa is the worst possible curse, because it implies being hunted down and having your body mutilated in order to use the organs in witch crafting rituals. Nothing can be less humane in the 21st century, but both the black market traders and the murderers go unpunished for this slow albino massacre. Baltera and Tortone dived into Mwanza, Tanzania’s second largest city by the shores of Lake Victoria, in order to witness the survival of four albinos in an ill fated circumstance. Maneno is a seventeen year old boy fighting skin cancer; Dickson tries to make it in the hip hop scene; Kapole is politically involved in an albino association; Samson is a worker with lots of children. The film is a renovated look with none of the typical vices we usually find in denounce documentaries and no signs of sensationalism. White Men depicts daily despair and violence with a perplex eye, but also with such intimacy and commitment to each of the people portrayed that it manages to draw one of the most lucid yet heartbreaking experiences in current documentary filmmaking.
