A typical element of traditional Breton music, the bombard is a wind instrument of the oboe family and with its particular sounds accompanies memorable songs each time Dédé Le Meut blows it to life. This documentary is a sort of music sheet that hits every note that can come out from Dédé, a torrent of Breton music –a perfect mix of Jacques Tati’s Hulot and Mr. Bean– and almost an eccentric wise man who lives for the survival of Breton music and its wide-spread expansion. Christian Rouaud manages to take multiple-sided snapshots where Dédé’s music works as the perfect soundtrack: whether it’s a church door with Breton bagpipes, a peasant’s home, or a recording studio, Dédé is always pumped-up with energy and trying to find the melody of his roots.
