Synopsis
Only one thing stands the passage of time in Minas-Texas: Januária’s romantic fantasy with cowboy Roy Pereira, an archetype of the American hero that looks like something fresh out of a film screen. The damsel runs away from the altar escaping from her shy husband Amorim –who was imposed by her parents– and gathers up a band to fight against those who wish to avenge the heartbroken groom. In the meantime, she waits in a farm for her beloved Roy, who never gets there. In this delirious Mineiro western directed by Prates (here called Charles Stone) the hero rides on a horse with the crest of soccer team Club Atlético Mineiro, so it’s less a parody of the genre than a meta-film, an allegorical tale about the hardships of making a western in Brazil. As film critic Gabriel Martins wrote, “by making a film with very inspired dialogues, Prates/Stone films his own creativity, his inspiration as it was visibly born out of a particular view on life and cinema. With its huge likability, Minas-Texas is enjoyable and yet carries, in its eloquence, a dosage of politics and poetry”.
