Synopsis
The headline couldn’t be more sensationalist: “Fifteen year old girl gets pregnant listening to a rock cassette”. It would be hard to believe if it wasn’t for Rebecca Thomas’ film, which shows nothing, not even hints of an image that could discard the immaculate conception theory for Rachel’s pregnancy (since she’s a young Mormon girl living in a fundamentalist community in Utah). Instead, this film goes along with this idea and accompanies our confused heroine as she goes through the desert up to the city of Las Vegas, a cathedral of neon lights and slot machines, in the hopes of finding an answer for this miracle from the members of the band she was listening to. From one state to another, swinging between completely opposite worlds, and on the same body where both magic and a ruthless humanity coexist, Electrick Children builds a bridge to enable something that is rarely possible: transforming uncertainty into one of the most intense emotions cinema can convey.
