Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires Festivales de Buenos Aires

20 April 2012

Combining documentary and fictional footage, the film strives to show the everyday life of a group of Brazilian women who live in rural areas and can hardly choose between sugar-cane harvesting or prostitution to make their living. This is the scenario of A opçao (Ou: as rosas da estrada ), by director Ozualdo R. Candeias, included in the Focus dedicated to productions made in Sao Paulo’s district Boca do Lixo. The film will be screened today, Friday, and there are tickets available for purchase at the Festival’s ticket outlets (find more information in the “Tickets” section) or on this website.

Candeias is considered one of the greatest authors in the history of Brazilian cinema. Previously a truck-driver, he has now established himself as one of the most brilliant social chroniclers and a key figure in the cinema stemming from the Sao Paulo area featured in this BAFICI.
