Synopsis

Right there where La Paternal meets Villa del Parque, in front of the San Martin Railroad tracks in Buenos Aires, the settlement La Lechería was for decades a symbol of the precarious housing situation of the city’s poorest. Born out of a series of liquidations of factories and the workers’ cooperative effort that resulted from that, the place expanded and multiplied since the 1980s. This documentary follows the creation of a housing cooperative, whose members manages to buy a lot in Mataderos to build some decent homes for themselves. After years of organizing and working, events set off quickly: eviction comes together with the promise of government compensations. But the neighbors of Mataderos form a front to reject the new neighbors since they are “villeros”, using violence and a press campaign. Errantes is the detailed record of an attempt at self-management in order to escape poverty and indignity.
