Synopsis

José Ramón Larraz is one of the most renowned horror film directors in Spain. For some people, at least. A cult director, who worked for English production company Hammer before settling in Spain. Thanks to master pieces such as Whirlpool (1970), Symptoms (1974) and Vampyres (1975), Larraz built a legend out of his name which was only enlarged by his retirement in the early Nineties. On Vampyres and Other Symptoms lives up to the standards of this director. It is an unclassifiable film that weaves together a journey in the middle of the night, footage from other films, and an accomplished comic strip animation (the director designed comic books before making movies) in order to build a horrifying and mysterious story. A biography with beautiful naked girls, a journey told with excessive amounts of blood, a tribute to a genre and to the man who ennobled it swinging knives and axes.
