Synopsis

Sylvain George spent four years living with illegal immigrants who wait for a chance to cross to England in the limbo of Calais, in Northern France. It was reasonable to expect, then, that there was more footage and more stories apart from the ones we saw in Qu’ils reposent en révolte (Des figures de guerres), the devastating, poetic, deeply humanist, and deserved winner of the last Bafici. Some of these new stories are the headlining fragments of this second incursion into a land ruled by state violence and a time that is spent surviving and escaping from the police. And, as (sadly) nothing has changed in Calais, nothing has changed either in George’s intelligent political cinema. It’s still a dry, experimental, and sensitive record of bodies deprived of their rights and reduced to criminality, used as a weapon of resistance (and emancipation) against the abuse of dominating representations.
